Operation consisting of removing the excess rubber (flash) in order to obtain perfect looking parts.
Previously done manually, this operation is now done in a machine using liquid nitrogen. This liquid evaporates into a very cold gas which brings the temperature down rapidly and freezes the rubber parts. The latter are then tumbled in an internal drum.
Rendered brittle by the cold, the flash breaks off during tumbling, leaving the parts free of flash. After removal from the machine, the parts regain their flexibility very quickly.
